One Good Use of Silverlight

I talked about my frustration with Silverlight to a couple of people at the recent tri-state community mixer and heard the same thing several times: “I wish I could come up with a project to try Silverlight.” This goes to reinforce my opinion that Silverlight is being pitched to the wrong audience (developers) with the wrong message (“Rich media experience for the masses”).

My Winter Storm Is Coming

I’m simply blown away by Tarja (pronounced TAR-ya) Turunen’s single I Walk Alone (warning: highly addictive) from her upcoming album My Winter Storm. For years, Tarja was the lead vocalist of Nightwish, an iconic Finnish band which you can easily put in both Gothic and symphony metal.

F# Now a First Class .NET Citizen

S. ’Soma’ Somasegar announced ’today’ today that the little known functional language ’F#’ F# has officially joined the ’.NET’ .NET family of languages. This is ’great’ great news! :)

Proliferation of Unhelpful Visuals

Is ours a fashion business? I think so. Every technology cycle brings its own fashion. PhotoShopped buttons with thick bevels in the late 90s; heavy, fat typefaces of the post-bubble; the now annoying jelly theme of MacOS X; Lightbox picture galleries and AJAX progress indicators of latter days.

Get a Will

A will is not something you’d brag about at a company picnic. A new car, a new iPhone, a new plasma TV—that’s fun stuff. A will isn’t a glamorous item. Who enjoys talking about death? However, of all the insignificant crap that dominates attention, taking care of your family if anything, god forbid, happens to you is of paramount importance.

Explain To Me the Value of Silverlight
