Firefox Abuse Pushed to the Limits

In the vein of "something pushed to unhealthy limits" I present to you another curious artifact I found today (original color palette preserved).

We drink Firefox coolaid

This cry of somebody’s soul is on a site with mid-90’s kind of design, meaning no design whatsoever. Even a canned FrontPage template would fare better. So I can’t confirm that the author suffered intense pains from getting his/her design right in IE.

You know folks, one thing that will help us get by on the web just fine is… no, not web standards. It’s common sense—this fine ol’ attribute of a sane human being.

I wonder… Maybe I need to begin collecting these stupid things.

I agree that that is a bit rediculous. But what about cases like my own - on my sites I sniff IE, Netscape 4-, and Opera 6- (all server-side), and present them with an OS-appropriate suggestion of newer browsers they should check out. My sites still work fine in IE, but I included the message because of the fact that it's always IE that needs hard work to get complicated CSS layouts working. You can't say you've never been in a situation where a site has looked fine in Firefox/Opera/Safari, and when you load it up in IE it's soup. (I had one bug where IE just painted one of my backgrounds randomly around the page). And you can't say that when that happens, you haven't wished for a button you could press that punched an IE developer. ;-)

That's funny, I think I do that with my website's now. Did the site look worse in IE? If it did then the message makes sense.

The funny thing is due to the site's simplicity it didn't matter either way and it looked absolutely the same. I guess this goes with the "hate Microsoft" vogue.

Unfortunately, some very big names including Tim Bray have been pushing people to put this lie on their sites:

"If you were looking at this in any browser but Microsoft Internet Explorer, it would look and run better and faster."

I am FAR from an IE fan, but a lie is a lie. There are far too many useful truths about why Firefox is better than IE, no reason to have to resort to something like that.

IE is a fact.

Firefox is a fact.

Look at your browser logs.

A lot of this stuff is tiresome and shows some people have too much time on their hands.

I've used SVG, I've used HTML+TIME, I've used a bunch of really cool technologies. I'd love to use them, write them once and have them work everywhere. Bad luck, it's just too much work!! Welcome to the real world.

We're here to talk to our visitors and whatever tools they choose to use. Political activism in this isn't for real people, and it's often full of lies. Grrrrrr.

I cannot seem to comprehend why some people run around boasting that they are designers/developers and cannot seem to figure out that it is always better to develop with diversity in mind.

It is really not that hard to learn to develop one's site to work and display well in the most popular browsers. I may take some reading and practice, but don't we all read the newspapers, magazines, or . . . blogs?

I am a Firefox fan, merely because of its flexibility for extensions, and features. However, it is time that the Microsoft haters realize that whether you like it or not, your server logs will show that most people still use IE.

The release of a new IE, may even sustain these (IE) users for a long time to come. Do not be misled, both browsers will be around for a while, it is never wise to turn someone away owing to the fact that they may be browsing on a 'modern' browser!

At least, im my humble opinion
