Code Mangling Explained

Mikhail Arkhipov, a Microsoft employee, explains why Visual Studio.NET 2002 and 2003 destroy your markup while switching to the design view and back. This issue has come up a gazillion times in newsgroups and elsewhere. I've touched on this subject in an April post VS.NET - Designer's "Best" Friend and sent Chad Royal an email asking if there was a service pack in store for VS.NET. In a nutshell, we'll have to put up with it until VS.NET 2005 ships. Hey, at least we got a clear answer and it's much appreciated, folks. ;)
